TellyWine® The App That Tells the Story of Italian Wine: Every Bottle Has a Culture Worth Sharing

Wine, a heritage to decipher

QR codes, RFID, websites, social media, smart labels... Over the past few years, many have tried to make the world of Italian wine more accessible. And yet, among 529 appellations, tens of thousands of producers, and over 420,000 different labels, even the most passionate consumers struggle to navigate it all.

TellyWine® was created to bring order to this complex universe

A free app, available starting at Vinitaly 2025, that uses artificial intelligence to read, interpret, and clearly and objectively explain the story each bottle tells.

From label to information: how TellyWine® works

Just take a photo of the front and back of the bottle where the commercial and legally required information are found, respectively. Thanks to OCR and years of work on a unique database, TellyWine® deciphers the wine's identity in real time.

It doesn’t just recognize the label: the app links each piece of information to the official production specifications, consortia, geographical areas, producers, and even the caloric content of a glass. Everything is explained simply, in a language designed for those who want to understand not necessarily become experts.

Ten smart features (plus one more)

In its first version, TellyWine® offers 10 categories of information:

  1. Type of wine, appellation, and vintage: TellyWine® immediately identifies the category, the relevant DOCG/DOC/IGT designation, and the vintage. If applicable, it also indicates how long it has been on the market and when the next vintage is expected.
  2. Regulatory classification: the quality "pyramid", a link to the official specifications, and the relevant protection consortium.
  3. Basic characteristics: color, sugar level, presence of bubbles, minimum aging period, traditional or geographical mentions.
  4. Production area: mapped visualization based on the appellation.
  5. Grapes and blends: percentages according to official specs, explained clearly.
  6. Who makes it and where: including the distance from the user to the winery.
  7. Calories per glass: based on 125 ml, converted into rice cakes (a fun way to debunk dietary myths).
  8. BAC calculation: simulation for an 80 kg man and a 60 kg woman, on a full or empty stomach, to stay within legal driving limits.
  9. Explanation of label logos: from quality marks to certifications, often overlooked.
  10. Bottle size and glasses: from the classic 0.75 L to the 30-liter Melchizedek, with an indication of how many standard bottles and glasses each format corresponds to.

Bonus: your personal tasting notes

After each scan, users can specify the context purchase, meal, or tasting. In the latter two cases, they can fill out a personal (private) tasting sheet with visual, olfactory, and gustatory evaluations, and an overall rating. Everything remains private: no social sharing, no external judgment.

Every bottle as a digital ambassador for the winery

TellyWine® isn't just designed for consumers. It's also a powerful communication tool for wineries. Each bottle can become a gateway to share what the label cannot say:

  • the story behind the name,
  • the vineyard of origin,
  • agronomic techniques,
  • cellar practices,
  • connection to the territory,
  • online sales channels,
  • wine tourism experiences.

Additionally, thanks to a simplified technical sheet developed in collaboration with Assoenologi, each winery can tell the story of how that wine was made from grape harvest to bottling.

A constantly evolving project

Launched at Vinitaly 2025, TellyWine® is still growing: it's an AI that learns with use. Every scan helps it get better at understanding and sharing information.

At the launch press conference, moderated by journalist Paola Restelli, speakers included Prof. Giorgio Calabrese, Fede & Tinto (radio hosts of Decanter), and Ivano Valmori, founder of the project.

At the 2025 Paestum Wine Fest, TellyWine® was awarded Best Wine Communication Platform. The prize was presented by RAI journalist Marco Di Buono, a well-known figure in food and wine journalism.
“A prize that honors us and motivates us to improve every day,” said Ivano Valmori, founder of TellyWine®. “This recognition shows that innovation can truly simplify and enhance the culture of Italian wine.”

And this is just the beginning: TellyWine® will also be featured at the Assoenologi Congress in Agrigento.

TellyWine® is already available, free for everyone, and ready to turn every bottle into a story waiting to be discovered.
